Acoustic Instructions

2025 | performative instructions | 10.05. - 30.06.2025

Under the title “Acoustic Instructions” drawings were presented that serve as scores for acoustic performances. Found technical drawings and architectural plans have been overlaid with performative instructions for humans or objects. This results in layers of technical precision and the aesthetics of the poetic. Auditory and tactile memories from everyday life – from touch and the resonance of what is touched – are explored in the performances. This exhibition was embedded in the collection of Artificialia at WUNDERKAMMER – NATURALIA I ARTIFICIALIA.

Soft Power: Neighbours consists of used carpets, metal, wood, motors, sound, and microcontrollers. Some of the 70 carpet rolls are driven by motors. The pressure of the surrounding rolls causes the other rolls to start spinning as well. The speed of the rotation depends on the proximity, stability and movement of the neighbouring rolls.
The friction of the different materials against each other creates different sounds, volumes and rhythms. The used carpets come from dozens of  households of my neighborhood in Berlin; everyday objects with different textures, motifs and cultural contexts.

glatt, glatt, glatt consists of Fishing wire, metal, motor, felt, sound, microcontroller. Fishing lines of various thicknesses are stretched on metal frames.

With the help of a small motor, a reed rotates on the entire back of the frame and plucks the strings. The sound varies in the different objects and is related to the thickness of the fishing lines, their arrangement and the speed of the motor. It is part of a research about the  phenomenon that mass-produced everyday objects have to be increasingly personalised and  identity confirming – and simoultanously paradoxicaly satisfy the need for everything to be always smooth, wrinkleness, slick and shiny.

Tickle, Tingle, Titilate consists of rubber gloves, Photographs, metal, motor, sound, microcontroller. Different moving sculptures and photographes of special gloves. They are touching surfaces repeatedly, sometimes soft like stroking, sometimes roughly and the sounds will change accordingly.
